Choosing to adopt a dog or cat can feel simple at first - you see a photo, feel an instant connection, get emotional, and think: this is the one. But truly responsible adoption starts long before that first moment.
In this episode of the series "A New Four-Legged Roommate", we talk about what adopting a pet really looks like today - from shelters and rescue organizations to adoption listings. We also explore an important question: should you choose a dog or cat based on your dreams, or on the everyday life you actually live?
Together with Jola Jurkiewicz-Azab, the author of the funpage Jelenie w Terenie, we discuss:
Do I have time for walks, care, and building a bond?
Am I mostly at home, or away a lot?
Am I looking for an active companion or a calm housemate?
Am I ready for the adjustment process?
We also talk about why it's worth getting to know a specific animal before adopting and why adoption is a journey, not a one-time event.
Because the best “yes” is one that comes after real thought.

"A New Four-Legged Roommate - Adopting a Dog or Cat with a Head and a Heart" is a conversation series created as part of the #ZNapędemNa4Łapy project. Honest, thoughtful, and full of care, we talk about pet adoption without sugarcoating, but with great respect and heart. We discuss decisions, emotions, responsibility, and the relationship that begins long before the day a dog or cat crosses the threshold of your home.
Joining us in our conversations is Jolanta Jurkiewicz-Azab, a theriologist and long-time animal advocate who has worked closely with rescue organizations and adoption processes for years. If anyone has seen the many realities of adoption behind the scenes, it’s her.
Before you adopt - listen first.
